TUTORING PROGRAM for Palo Alto Middle School Students
Curriculum Based on Best Practices
The DreamCatchers Tutoring Program has been developed and vetted by experts in the field and works to cultivate two key elements for student success: student mindset towards learning as well as concrete study skills needed for success. By opening our students' eyes to the concept called growth mindset, coined by world-renowned Stanford University researcher Carol Dweck, we enable our students to equate success with hard work, motivating them to work harder and aim higher. By also teaching our students skills and strategies for learning and studying effectively, we provide them with the tools they need to meet those higher expectations and ultimately succeed in school.
One-on-one Tutoring
Through personalized, yearlong interactions with expertly trained tutors, our students receive coaching in these areas specifically targeted to their individual academic needs. In addition, our one-on-one tutoring pairs develop relationships that move beyond simply improving grades to building self-confidence and a strong sense of community.
Evaluation by Stanford School of Education Researchers
In order to inform our program' continued development and improvement, our tutoring program will be evaluated by a team of researchers from Stanford University's School of Education, to assess our program's effect on student academic achievement and attitudes towards learning.
