Heidi Mickelsen, M.Ed.
Heidi comes to DreamCatchers with a desire to further her work with underrepresented youth as she works on program curriculum, tutor training, and communication with staff and administration at our students’ schools. Most recently, Heidi has worked as a math intervention teacher for low-performing students in Mountain View, and volunteered as a Site Director in the Ravenswood School District, with the nonprofit All Students Matter (ASM). While working for ASM, she created and ran an early-literacy program in Ravenswood, where she trained community volunteers to tutor elementary students in reading comprehension and fluency.
Heidi received her BA in Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, and her MA in Educational Policy and Administration at Stanford University. She taught middle school math, English, and French at one of the first charter schools in inner-city Chicago and also taught middle school math and English in Brookline, MA. Heidi has also worked as a School Coach for Challenge Success, where she led high school teams of students, teachers, and administrators in a process to develop plans for reducing student stress. She has volunteered in the Palo Alto Unified School District for the past eleven years as a classroom volunteer and community service leader; has served on the PTA Executive Board; and was elected for a two-year term as representative on the School Site Council at both the elementary and high school levels. She was part of PAUSD’s Math Task Force during 2011-12, and is passionate about providing academic challenge and equity to all students in the district – in math as well as in all subjects.
